Now, here's another funny coincidence. I opened a second tab with the Test topic open in both. I made a post in one, switched to the other, refreshed it, and there's my post - took a few seconds, is all.

what FF extensions do you have
it sounds like a FF extension playing up or something blocking DNS lookup on your computer when using FF

I would try disabling Avast webrep and see if that solves it as that could well be acting as a proxy & looking up OL everytime. It would work in a separate tab, becasue it is connected already, so doesn't need to go through the whole look up every time
