I knew he was ill, but didn't know it was that bad.
I have met him a couple of times some years ago......once briefly on the car ferry (Soton - Cowes) and once when he came into Plumb Center to buy some bits. He was a very nice chap and in conversation with him about doing more telly he said then that he had not been too good and had to give it up.
A thoroughly nice chap who was not too self important to spend five minutes or so talking with me.

On another note.........
A few years back I also met Melvyn Hayes (It ain't half hot mum) as he was living in Ryde and I had to deliver a Gas Board heating kit to his place.
The there was Shaw Taylor, who lives out at Totland....delivered there too.
Briefly spoke to Alan Titchmarsh waiting for the car ferry Soton-Cowes.........and pleasant chap too.

Then there is Jack Douglas until he died.
In fact quite a few 'celeb's' live over here, and see some of them from time to time.

So sad about Geoffrey though.
