Keynsham, from the top of the church tower!
« on: Jan 08, 10, 11:50 AM »
I've just been up on top of the tower of St John's Church, Keynsham - you won't be surprised to hear I was carrying cameras.

Those of you who have seen me will also be unsurprised to hear that the spiral staircase was a rather tight fit... not too bad going up, but coming down tiny steps with my feet hidden by my belly was, frankly, scary... I really didn't fancy riding the bumpy helter-skelter all the way down on my arse!

Most of my shooting was on film, but I carried a digital too so I could give a 'preview' straight away.

is where you'll find them.

When I've got the film processed I'll add those shots in the same place and bump the thread.

You'll have to sweet-talk the verger at your local church when the weather is better... just check the 'calibre' of the stairwell before you get too far to turn around, and a hint based on my experience, wear one of those disposable dust-masks as you climb to avoid asthma problems... you'll be fine with the number of stairs if you just take your time and rest when you need to.

Not having used a mask was what limited the length of my visit... I'd had a belly-full of dust on the way up and my chest was beginning to tighten once I'd been on the roof ten minutes - so I beat the retreat before I developed a full-blown asthma-attack as I didn't fancy the embarrassment of being airlifted from the roof!  :gig:

Imagine how the poor staircase must have felt with a great lummock like me walking all over it!

And I might not have been the heaviest of the three of us either...  :pa

If you fancy challenging yourself to a few shots from the same vantage-point it could be arranged...   :angel2:

If I lived closer I would love to take some photos from that vantage point.

Should I ever visit you and Babs, I expect that to be on the agenda. ;)

I've won a POTW competition, now I need to win the POTM one!  ;D

All it takes is a kind word to the church warden - this guy http://www.flickr.com/photos/arcadiaphotographicuk/ is the one who arranged it last time around, but now I know who to talk to myself.

I'm glad you don't.

Then again, as you know, I didn't think I stood a chance in hell of actually winning the POTW one and was just pleased to have had one of my images nominated!
