People often do, human nature I suppose, some ( like myself ) tend to lean toward the underdog, even the "no hoper" on occasion, in my case, just because too often a lot of folks sometimes support the ( perceived ) eventual winner.

When it is particularly sad is when one of the contestants did not even realise there was a competition.
