The local history of mental health care

This is a fascinating read about the early days of attempting to treat mental problems - along with the varying ideas of what was a treatable problem as opposed to criminal behaviour.

The navigation of the site is pretty nasty - it looks like it was made in Netscape - but the information is worth the effort of digging for it.
