Maybe there's an adult version of this available?

Alternatively, and more seriously, it may be time for him to start using a walking-frame for the sake of stability?

Babs has one with a seat that she uses instead of her stick if we're going somewhere for a long time where there's no provision for resting even though she doesn't strictly need it for balance, and it makes things possible that otherwise wouldn't be... and as a bonus it's got a carrier under the lift-up seat so it doubles as a shopping-trolley so she can buy more stuff without worrying about the weight.
It folds fairly flat so it will go on a bus ok, or into the boot of a car.

I've suggested a walking frame but he hasn't taken to the idea as yet, but it would be safer & give him stability,  :yup:

It's reaching the point where soon he's going to have to face a stark choice - frame, or grounded for his own safety... and he won't like that idea.  :nooo:

Yes these falls are becoming too frequent & even if I went with him I couldn't stop him falling.  :(

And just like any of us, he wants to remain independent until the day he leaves in a box... nobody enjoys the rites of passage of advancing years... first the reading glasses, then the stick, then the frame... so we fight tooth and claw at every such thing.

I recall the traumas of trying to get Babs to use a stick for the first time and she was having none of it for years until the time she hurt herself and borrowed mine... then discovering how much it helped.

Same went for a shopping-trolley... they were for 'old people', but I used one regardless since my early 40s as my spine is shot to hell. Babs? Furgeddaboutit... she'd *still* rather lug 4 bags of shopping than be sensible if I don't insist.

Her knees are completely fucked and anybody sensible would have had them swapped out at least a decade ago - maybe in another decade? Who knows? I'm not holding my breath.

We're fighting the same bloody fight, Yvonne  ::)

It's stubborn pride,  ;)

He's had 18 fractures in his lifetime now & it wasn't weak bones for most of them, getting old has whiskers on,  ;)

my neighbours have had knee replacements in their 70's & are back playing golf  tennis.

To add to the drama his wallet & camera were put in the safe & when we asked to have them so I could take them home they were supposed to take 10 minutes, an hour later they hadn't come so I had to leave before getting a parking ticket, hope they turned up.  :-\

He only just got a new driver's licence after tossing out his old wallet with it in as he got a new one for Father's Day. If his wallet has gone missing this time I doubt he'd get another one now.
A nurse was sacked at another hospital this week after a new Dad had been talking to his father on Skype & left the room when his wife called him, his father saw the nurse go through his wallet that he left on the table & recognised her when she walked back into the room when his son had returned.

(((Yvonne)))  So sorry to hear about Tony.   :(

Give it a new name and tell Tony it's to put any shopping in. The bonus being that he has a seat when ever he wants it.

Rollator? Sounds better. :-)

Thanks Babs,  :)

Yes we've seen lots of them around these days, we can only try to persuade him to have one & hope he sees common sense.  ;)

He's in Rehab now & getting physio etc. & could be there for 2 to 4 weeks.

It's very close to Melbourne Zoo so I think I may go there to take some photos before I see him tomorrow.  :)

Tony's home at last,

with a frame on loan for a month, hopefully he will realise how much easier it makes things.  :yup:

Hope it's a speedy recovery... and that he gets used to the frame.
