A few piccies from IoW.
« on: Mar 26, 16, 04:36 PM »
A few photos from my recent holiday on the Isle of Wight. I've done links as the piccies are too big to insert here.

It was a lovely holiday.
Sorry I didn't get to see Roy, maybe next time as we're planning on returning next year.

Love and best wishes for one and all,
Your Friends, John and Jenny.

Ignoring the warning message that I am now 120 days late, I just thought I would mention that I hadn't noticed this post until now...

However, some great pic's there, and Ryde Pier, which has changed so much since I used to use it a lot back in the 60's.

I had a bit of a shock when I came back to the Island (when living in England) for a visit, to find some rickety old ex London tube train waiting for me, instead of the old Puffing Billy that I used to catch to go to Ventnor... :o :(

My memory may be playing tricks, but I seem to remember that at the beginning of the pier, mounted on a plinth was the Supermarine S.68 flying boat (precursor to the Spitfire) that won the Schneider Trophy in 1931.
It was always nice to look at when I got off the tram or train, to exit the pier.

I don't have a clue when it is removed, or if it ever existed there at all, as I can't seem to find anything on Google..............but I think it was.  ;D
I intend to live forever. So far, so good - But, too many Birthdays can kill you.

Never too late, Baron. Thanks for looking at my piccies.  :nnc:

There does appear to be a similar statue in Southampton, could you be getting confused with that one?

Looking forward to meeting you in October.

Love and best wishes,
your friend,
John.
