Here's a weird one.
« on: Mar 24, 17, 11:10 AM »
Something, I know not what, keeps stealing focus. I'll be in the middle of doing something and either the thing I'm doing minimises or the window simply loses focus.

Now, I've used my sysinternals suite to check that there's nothing running that ought not to be and everything seems as it should be.

So, how the fark can I figure out what's nicking the focus? Would there be a priority clue, somewhere?

Edit: Ha! Just found this:

Well I guess it might be worth a try......go on, you know you want to.  ;D
Apart from that helpful tip, it has never happened to me, many others niggles, but not that one.....yet.

Well, at the moment, it looks like it's one of AVG's files.

avguix.exe

I can't see why that should want focus, though, nor how to tell the bugger to... er... bugger off.

Just did a search, though, and it seems that there may be a bug, there, somewhere, as I don't seem to be the only one...

  Well I decided to uninstall a recent Intel HD Graphics install as my computer is slowing up, & now my card games are slow & jumpy;
I tried downloading Intel HD Graphics 520 64bit but it won't install, says my computer not suitable, now I'm thinking it may have been the driver I need ? .... teach me to meddle with things  ::)

This is with Wankdows 10, innit?

You can often get legacy drivers for GFX cards, that Windows Update won't even know about. If you tell me what the exact model of your card is, I can have a hunt. Not sure if W10 allows such individualism, but I can have a gander.

Or, is "Intel HD Graphics 520" about it?

Tried any of these?

Thanks Kat,  :)

I downloaded the driver update, but AVG said it was suspicious so no luck again.  ::)

You can safely disable AVG to install that. It's just being paranoid.

More gremlins to stop installing.  ::)

win64_154001 - my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run this app.

win64_154516.4627 - Windows SmartScreen prevented unrecognised app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.

Are you trying to install an x86 driver onto an x64 machine, or vice-versa?

No, I downloaded a 64 bit to suit my 64 bit computer.

These are what I downloaded :-

win64_154001.exe

win64_154516.4627.exe

If you click on the "OK" button, when you get that "Windows SmartScreen prevented unrecognised app from starting" bollox, the program execution is terminated. But, if you  click on the "More info" link, given in the message, it'll provide two options, "Run anyway" and "Don't run".

You can click on the "Run anyway" button to launch the program.

If you hate that message, you can disable it, entirely, in Control Panel/Security and Maintenance/Change Windows SmartScreen settings, in left sidebar.

Let's have a delve...

http://www.katzy.dsl.pipex.com/everest Portable.zip

If you run that and look at the details for your GFX card, it should tell you what it is. Have a look in the "Display" section.
