Gettting no error messages apart from initially being told that printer was offline.

What about the error log? Tried a different cable/checked it's properly connected?

Connected by wi-fi. Worked happily for years. Can scan from printer. This means I am connected. However am no longer able to print from Word or Excel.

If there're no clues in the system error log, I think I'd be tempted to uninstall the printer and reboot, to let it reinstall. Or, perhaps, just get some newer drivers, if they exist.

Did you recently install anything else, which might've interfered with your printer? If you're on the poo that is W10, it might have just done that, itself. It updates and fails to see hardware that was already installed and borks it. Many lappies have had their mouse pad thingies stop working, like that...
