I await with interest in comments from Derek.... ;)

Once I tried one of these 'free scans', and when it had finished it lists a whole load of crap that was bad for my computer, and that many drivers were out of date..............I think, it was a long time ago, after starting out being baffled by computers and Windows......W98SE or maybe XP...twas years ago, in the days when I downloaded screen savers and 'HotBar', and then wonder why my PC was screwed up..... :yup:
However, the message at the end was that I had to fork out money to clean my PC etc.,.....so the scan was free, but the solutions to my 'problems' would cost money.....
Needless to say, I didn't bother because I was a bit wiser by then.... ;D

OTL is touted as a modern version of HijackThis and it seems to do a decent job of it, too. I gave both a go, just to try them out, and they both give my rig a clean bill of health. But, one can never be too sure, so other opinions are always worth getting.

OTL is not updated any longer but does work. It is  a bit harder to work out what to do with it
I prefer FRST  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

I have never used the Eset one, so can't say. I do use lots of other Eset tools & AV though

Thanks Derek.
I had a look at that link for FRST, but was a little concerned at all the comments/feed back for it, which was not glowing.... :)

FRST needs to be used  under supervision because it can case damage. But so can OTL
Neither are automatic tools, they need interpretation of what they find.
Both basically list almost every start up or run point on the computer and allow them to be fixed.

Suck 'em and see, I guess.

I still run HJT, from time to time, just to keep an eye on things, and keep my eyes on the registry. Nir Sofer has some brilliant tools, for keeping an eye on things, of course, too.

Thanks for your opinions, my ol' china!

Therefore, I should not be allowed to get anywhere near it........... ;D
